Tourists Rush to Book Cancun Vacations as Mexico Opens Slowly

The Governor of Quintana Roo has announced some encouraging numbers that the first hotel reservations have started coming in for Cancun.

According to the Travel Off Path website, after the announcement by Governor Carlos Joaquín González that the state would reopen to tourism on June 8th, travelers are slowly beginning to book hotel rooms.

“Currently we have between 40 and 50 hotel reservations already, which is encouraging,” said González in a televised press conference. 

Mr. González reinterated that tourism activity could resume internally on June 1st and open to guests by June 8th once sanitation protocols are complete.

He added that the Mexican Caribbean will be announced as a safe destination in regards to sanitary measures in coronavirus prevention.

The Governor continues to urge people to reinforce their prevention, hygiene and social distancing measures, since when economic activities are resumed, “we are going to confront the coronavirus outside of house.”

“It is important that you know we are going to live with the coronavirus. We must be prepared and maintain prevention measures,” explained the governor.

González announced that progress is being made so that as of June 1, the state can start to return to a new normal and return to the economic activities that families need.

He said that the state has centers set up for coronavirus patients, adding that it will be the color of the traffic light system that is the final determining factor for the state’s return to economic activities.

In another press conference on May 20th, Governor Carlos Joaquín said that tourism is an essential activity and that there is no other of greater importance in Quintana Roo “and we are going to fight for it to be considered that way.”
