Princess Cruises Announces New Solar Eclipse Itinerary for 2026
Princess Cruises has introduced a second Total Solar Eclipse cruise option aboard its newest ship, Sun Princess, scheduled for August 2026. This addition comes in response to the growing interest in solar eclipse travel, offering guests a chance to witness the breathtaking celestial event while sailing the Mediterranean.
The Sun Princess voyage will depart from Barcelona on August 8, 2026, positioning the ship off the southern coast of Spain by August 12, where guests will experience two minutes and 18 seconds of total eclipse. Princess Cruises aims to provide an unforgettable experience for eclipse enthusiasts.
Several itinerary options are available, ranging from seven to 21 days, departing from popular Mediterranean ports. Highlights include a 21-day roundtrip from Rome, a 14-day journey from Athens to Rome, and a 7-day cruise from Barcelona to Rome, all featuring the eclipse event.
John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, expressed excitement about the voyages, noting, "Sun Princess truly lives up to its name, offering a front-row seat for a total eclipse of the sun. We're thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to our guests."
During the eclipse, passengers will gather on the top decks with safety glasses and enjoy astronomy lectures, themed activities, and stargazing. Guests are encouraged to bring their own telescopes and don eclipse-themed apparel to enhance the experience.
In addition to Sun Princess, Sky Princess will also offer a 14-day solar eclipse cruise, sailing from Southampton on August 8, 2026, visiting historical ports across Spain, France, and Portugal. Both voyages are now available for booking.
