Air Europa Starts Spain-Honduras Nonstop Flight

Last night saw the inaugural Air Europa flight take off from Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez Barajas airport to San Pedro Sula – the first of its kind to connect Europe directly with Honduras.

Air Europa UK managing director, Colin Stewart, commented: “We are thrilled about the launch of this new route – our first flight into Central America.

“It’s also a big coup for our group – Globalia – to be the first European airline to run a direct flight from Spain to Honduras, and will offer huge benefits to our passengers.”

The weekly flight to San Pedro Sula will take off from Madrid at 01:35 on Thursdays, arriving at 04:40. The inbound flight will land in Madrid on Fridays at 05:15.

UK travelers can connect from the 17:20 flight to Madrid on Wednesdays with a total travel time of just over 18 hours, while the return connection is only 2.5 hours with a total travel time of just under 16 hours.

Connecting via Madrid will mean that travelers from the UK can avoid US immigration controls currently required with other flights departing from Europe.

Air Europa’s president Juan José Hidalgo, as well as Honduras ambassador to Spain, Norman García, and director of from Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez Barajas airport, Elena Mayoral, were all present for the launch.

The flight was welcomed in Honduras by the country’s president, Juan Orlando Hernández.

The route, operated with an Airbus 330 -200, with a capacity of 274 economy passengers and 25 in business class is predicted to be over 80 percent full, showcasing the success of the new route.

The Honduras route will be Air Europa’s 19th destination in the Americas, where it continues to expand and reaffirm its position as the premier airline and number one connection between Europe and the region.
