Cubanacan’s “30th Anniversary” Megafam Kicked Off

A significant number of tour operators from the main travel outbound markets for Cuba have traveled to the island nation to participate in the “30th Anniversary” Megafam, organized by Cuban inbound agency Cubanacan within the framework of the celebrations for the group’s three decades of work.
Representatives from travel agencies and tour operators from Germany, Canada, Colombia, Spain, France, Holland, Mexico, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland and Cuba were invited by the Cubanacan Group to go to Comodoro Hotel, in Havana, where they were welcomed by executives of the Cuban company.
Mrs. Yamily Aldaba Valdes, president of the Cubanacan Group, delivered the welcome speech to nearly 60 attendees, including seven foreign media representatives, such as the Excelencias Group.
According to Mrs. Aldaba Valdes, this megafam tries to show tour operators that the tourism circuits and facilities managed by Cubanacan, except for Cayo Coco north of Ciego de Avila province, are ready to face the high-peak travel season throughout the country.
Cayo Coco, one of the main sun-beach destinations in Cuba, was severely battered by category-five hurricane Irma on September 8, which seriously damaged local hotel infrastructures.
The first day of the megafam comprised visits to Chateau Hotel, in Havana’s Miramar neighborhood, and Acuario Club, nestled in Hemingway Marina.
When visiting Chateau Hotel, deputy director Yoenia Cedie shared details on the renovation and rehabilitation work carried out in this gorgeous hotel (50 rooms), which was significantly damaged by the strength of winds and six-meter-high waves that flooded the lobby and some common areas.
On October 16-22, the participants will be visiting seven cities and three beach destinations in the country. The 1,900 km tour will include 31 hotels: 10 beach hotels and 21 city facilities.
