More Canadian Tourists Visiting the Dominican Republic in 2017

The Dominican Republic welcomed some 768,486 visitors from Canada in 2016. In January and February 2017 international tourism to the country jumped by 4.6 percent versus the same months in 2016.

From that number, 2.8 percent were North American, with 10,347 additional travelers from Canada.

The D.R.’s Ministry of Tourism says the revamping of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone is bringing new options for tourists looking to experience the historic capital city in a different way.

With the installation of LED lights in the streets and city squares, tours are being offered that take guests around the city in the evening.

New hotels are being constructed and travelers to Punta Cana can look forward to a new luxury all-inclusive, Royalton Bavaro, slated to open in December 2017.
