Tourism representatives from Turks and Caicos Islands captured two of four Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) tourism industry awards at the opening of the fourth CHIEF.
The first quarter proved to be the best in terms of tourism. The revenues generated at the time of this quarter have been increasing over the last nine years.
Over the last five years, Latin America has been the scene of sporting mega-events, such as the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and the World Cup in 2014, also in Brazil.
The Caribbean was the only sub-region to experience a decline in arrivals, with visitors down 9 percent on the same period in 2017 as some destinations continued to struggle from the impact of last autumn’s hurricanes.

The deceleration in the growth of the tourist influx to Puerto Vallarta is also reflected in the arrival of visitors to that destination through the Vallarta airport.
