The United States started scheduled commercial flights to Havana this week, the first set of regular trips that are expected to drive up costs for Canadians vacationing in Cuba.

Colombian authorities came up with a new way of attracting more visitors – by promoting their rich cuisine and typical dishes. The emphasis on gastro tourism is the new marketing  strategy announced by the Ministry of Commerce at the Caribbean Food and Rum Festival.

The decision to target the French Caribbean was based on several factors. Martinique and Guadeloupe report higher per capita GDPs than almost all other economies in the region.

The Canadian market has been a “challenge” this year for the Caribbean, with visitor traffic from this market dropping 3.7 percent for the first six months of 2016.

Diversifying visitor offerings is one goal of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co., spearheaded by executive director Ingrid Rivera Rocafort.
