Fred Dixon Returns to Lead New York City Tourism + Conventions
Fred Dixon is officially returning to his former post as President and Chief Executive Officer of NYC Tourism + Conventions, marking a high-profile homecoming for the prominent tourism executive after spending more than two years leading Brand USA. His reappointed leadership role across the five boroughs is scheduled to take effect on December 1, following a transition period.
During his initial decade-long tenure leading the official destination marketing organization from 2014 to 2024, Dixon successfully doubled international visitation numbers through a robust global network of sales and marketing outposts. He subsequently transitioned in July 2024 to head Brand USA, the national public-private partnership dedicated to increasing inbound international travel across the United States.
Industry observers note that Dixon's return comes at a strong economic moment for the metropolis. Official data indicates that New York City welcomed approximately 65 million visitors, generating 55.6 billion dollars in direct visitor spending and supporting nearly 388,000 local leisure and hospitality jobs across the five boroughs.
Reflecting on his upcoming transition back to municipal leadership, Dixon emphasized that his tenure at the national level provided an invaluable global perspective on modern travel market competitiveness. Local hotel associations and municipal stakeholders have warmly welcomed the appointment, viewing his proven expertise as vital for maintaining the city's premier status among global destinations.
