Mexico Welcomed over 4 Million Tourists in the First Two Months of the Year

During the first two months of 2024, Mexico received more than 4 million international tourists arriving by air, according to their nationality, as revealed by Mexico's Ministry of Tourism (Sectur). This marks a 6.2% increase compared to the same period last year, equivalent to 248,339 additional tourists.
This increase also represents a 24.9% increase compared to the first two months of 2019, when the country received 3 million 410 thousand tourists.
The main countries of origin of these tourists were the United States, Canada and Colombia, according to data provided by the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob). In January and February 2024, these three countries totaled 3 million 357 thousand tourists, representing an increase of 8.1% compared to the same period of 2023 and an increase of 36.3% compared to the same period of 2019.
In detail, U.S. tourist arrivals during January and February 2024 were 2 million 465 thousand, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period of 2023 and an increase of 46.8% compared to the same period of 2019. Canadian tourist arrivals were 784 thousand 150, an increase of 13% compared to the same period of 2023 and an increase of 11.8% compared to the same period of 2019. On the other hand, Colombian tourist arrivals were 107 thousand 856, an increase of 30.7% compared to the same period of 2019.
As for airports, Cancun, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta were the busiest during January and February 2024, with a total of 3 million 177 thousand international tourists. This represents an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023 and an increase of 22.1% compared to the same period in 2019.
Cancun received 1 million 985 thousand international tourists, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period of 2023. Mexico City International Airport (AICM) received 723 thousand 712 tourists, while Puerto Vallarta received 469 thousand 55 tourists, an increase of 8.9% compared to the same period of 2023.
The rest of the international airports received 1,81 thousand tourists, an increase of 8.1% compared to the same period in 2023, with a market share of 25.4%.
