Spain has unveiled an official stamp of approval for all businesses that are doing their part to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, as reported by Travelweek, a Canadian travel and tourism website.

The ‘Responsible Tourism’ seal, developed by the Spanish Secretary of State for Tourism, is awarded to establishments that follow official guidelines approved by the Ministry of Health. The seal is non-transferable and must be renewed every year.

“Offering trust and safety is crucial at this time to attract both national and international tourists again,” says Isabel Oliver, Secretary of State for Tourism. “This seal is one more element in our strategy to reposition ourselves as a safe tourism destination worldwide.”

Oliver adds that the seal also serves to recognize the responsibility of entrepreneurs who make an effort to create a safe environment in their respective businesses, “not only for tourists but for their own workers and residents.”

Official guidelines include specifications of service, cleaning and disinfection, maintenance and management of risk for different sub-sectors of the tourism sector.

These will be the framework for the creation of standards at a global level, following an agreement adopted within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
