MSC Cruises marked a major milestone this week with the official naming of MSC World America, the cruise line’s newest and most innovative flagship, during a spectacular ceremony at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal — the largest cruise terminal in the world.

Hollywood actress and TV host Drew Barrymore presided over the maritime tradition as the ship’s Godmother, joined by actor Orlando Bloom, her co-star in MSC’s “Let’s Holiday” campaign launched during the Big Game. In true nautical fashion, Barrymore cut the ribbon to trigger the ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s bow.

"It's such an honor to be MSC World America's Godmother," said Barrymore. "I've had a lifelong passion for travel, and I know that millions of people will create unforgettable memories aboard this beautiful ship."

The event was attended by international media, travel industry leaders, and dignitaries, including executives from MSC Cruises and parent company MSC Group. Guests were treated to live entertainment, a gala dinner, and a dazzling fireworks and drone show over the Miami skyline.

MSC World America is MSC Cruises’ second World Class ship and the first to be specifically designed with the North American market in mind. The ship features seven onboard districts, each offering a distinct experience, blending MSC’s signature European elegance with American-style amenities and entertainment.

Following the naming ceremony, attendees enjoyed a celebratory sailing to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC’s private island in The Bahamas. Guests experienced an overnight stay with Ocean Cay’s iconic lighthouse light show, a beachside DJ party, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Marine Conservation Centre, part of the MSC Foundation’s Super Coral Program aimed at restoring coral reefs affected by climate change.

MSC World America departs on her first public cruise on April 12, 2025. She will spend her inaugural season homeporting in Miami with alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Destinations include Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico), and Roatán (Honduras), with every itinerary featuring a stop at Ocean Cay.

This milestone reinforces MSC Cruises’ commitment to expanding its presence in North America and delivering next-generation cruise experiences tailored to a global audience.
