The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has announced Cartagena, Colombia, as the host city for the 24th Responsible Seafood Summit, set to take place during the week of Sept. 29, 2025, at the InterContinental Cartagena.

This marks the first return of the summit to South America in seven years, with the last regional event held in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 2018. Cartagena, a vibrant Caribbean destination and UNESCO World Heritage site, will serve as a picturesque and strategic location for global seafood industry stakeholders to discuss sustainability, innovation, and collaboration.

Colombia's Growing Seafood Industry

"Bringing our signature event back to South America reflects the growing importance of Colombia in the global seafood sector," said Mike Kocsis, CEO of GSA. "With its commitment to responsible production in both aquaculture and wild-capture fisheries, Cartagena is an ideal host city for fostering connections and advancing sustainable practices."

A Global Platform for Innovation

The Responsible Seafood Summit has been a premier event for over two decades, offering a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among industry leaders. The event provides opportunities to address challenges, share solutions, and spotlight advancements in sustainable seafood production.

"Cartagena, with its rich history and coastal charm, is a perfect setting for the summit," remarked Carlos Salinas, Americas Regional Director for the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC). "As a longstanding sponsor, we are excited to engage with global leaders and support innovation and sustainability in aquaculture."

Spotlight on Latin American Contributions

Latin America’s advancements in aquaculture will take center stage, as highlighted by Adolfo Alvial, Executive Director of the Chilean Aquaculture Innovation Club. "This is an excellent opportunity to showcase LATAM’s progress in technology, productivity, and sustainability, strengthening the region’s role in the global seafood industry."

Why Cartagena?

The historic city of Cartagena offers more than its scenic beauty and cultural richness. Its recognition by Travel + Leisure as one of the "Best Places to Travel in 2024" and its strategic location in the Caribbean make it an ideal venue for a global gathering of seafood thought leaders.

The 2025 Responsible Seafood Summit promises to foster innovative solutions, strengthen global partnerships, and advance the industry's commitment to sustainability in the heart of Colombia’s emerging seafood sector.
