Portugal's Algarve region will look to promoting itself as one of the world’s top trending destinations at Madrid’s International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which will take place between January 18 and 22.

“The Algarve was included in the top-10 tourist destinations which will be trending this year due to what it has to offer in terms of active and nature tourism, air links and the quality of its accommodation, according to a report by consultants Mabrian Travel Intelligence,” says Algarve tourism chief João Fernandes.

According to the report, the Algarve is considered the third top destination that will be trending in 2023, with an “interesting mix of tourism product, very competitive accommodation prices and a significant increase in air connectivity.”

As Fernandes points out, the pandemic has “structurally changed the industry on a global scale and the Algarve has the characteristics that new travellers desire.

“We will take to FITUR a destination with nature, tradition, gastronomy, good wine, industrial and creative tourism,” says the tourism chief.

“Although it is not easy to predict how the travel market will evolve in 2023, we believe there is a lot of room for the Spanish market to grow in the Algarve, as it represented more than one million overnight stays and 400,000 guests before the pandemic,” he adds.

The Algarve will be promoted as one of the exhibitors of the Turismo de Portugal national tourism stand.
