Entrepreneurs in the travel and tourism sector will have a different opportunity at this year's WTM Latin America. With a space reserved for startups, the event, in alliance with Campus Party, gives 12 companies the opportunity to present their projects in the 8th edition of the fair. Registration to participate in the challenge can be done until March 4th, and vacancies are limited to 30 companies that will participate in the selection.

The challenge consists of two phases, the first one refers to the selection of 12 startups that will participate in WTM Latin America, and during the event they will present their projects before a jury.

Companies interested in registering for the Travel Forward Startup Hub challenge must complete the form at this link and meet the following requirements: companies in the pre-operational phase (without registration or invoicing) with a prototype or beta version of a viable product or established companies (registered, with tax identification number) for a maximum of five years; have or be developing a technology-based solution (web/software/hardware/mobile) and focus on the travel and tourism sector.

The companies selected to exhibit in the innovation area of WTM Latin America will be announced on March 16th.

During the event, the selected startups will have a space to exhibit their products and, at the end of the first two days, they will defend their projects before mentors from the Advisory Board and market influencers. Six startups per day will make a presentation of a maximum of five minutes and must explain the commercial aspects of the business, the differential characteristics and scalability.

On the last day, the three winners of the challenge will be announced. And, as a prize for the second phase, the winners will have the benefit of exhibiting at Campus Party, as well as receiving five tickets to participate in the event.

Ney Neto, Director of Business Development and Innovation of the MCI Group, reinforces the importance that this opening of space to startups represents within the main tourism business event in Latin America. "We are past the stage of imagining the impacts on the tourism industry caused by new business models or disruptive innovations. Now is the time to build bridges between the sector and these digital-born companies. Promoting access to startups and their proposals is one of the best ways to develop the tourism sector, and in this context, WTM's initiative to present these entrepreneurs to the event's public strengthens the entire travel production chain, creating many business opportunities".

To find out more about the selection process, access the challenge's regulations. Those interested in participating must publish information about the product/service, provide a link to access the information, a summary of the business model of up to 280 words, and companies that do not have a logo must create one.

The director of WTM Latin America, Luciane Leite, explains that the initiative to bring the startups audience to the event is a reflection of the market evolution and a model of action already tested and very well evaluated in London.  "We are looking for positive references in the market and, in particular, in our London event, which is the largest in terms of B2B tourism in the world. Furthermore, we are aware of the importance and impact that technology and innovation have on our sector. Providing space for these companies to present their proposals and participate in this challenge is a very positive stimulus for the market in general, since we created a showcase to exhibit new solutions," he concludes.
