IX International Gastronomic Seminar Excelencias Gourmet to Start this Week in Havana

With an extensive program of activities and various collateral events, the ninth edition of the International Gastronomic Seminar Excelencias Gourmet will kick off Wednesday in Havana, this time around at the emblematic Cabaret Tropicana in Havana.

The seminar, which will run until next Friday, September 27, is dedicated to back-and-fourth food and the 500th anniversary of the founding of the city of San Cristobal de La Habana. It will also happen in a happy coincidence with the tenth anniversary of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy and the 80th anniversary of the Cabaret Tropicana.

As every year, the International Gastronomic Seminar Excelencias Gourmet is honored with the presence of important personalities from the world of gastronomy and culinary art, and for this ninth edition will boast the presence of Don Rafael Ansón, president of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy and the Royal Spanish Academy of Gastronomy.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Mr. José Carlos de Santiago, President and Editor-in-Chief of the Excelencias Group and Vice President of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy (AIBG is the Spanish acronym). Spain’s ambassador to Cuba, Juan Fernández Trigo, and the President of the Provincial Assembly of the People’s Power of Havana, Reynaldo García Zapata, will also be attendance.

For the opening day itself, On Wednesday, September 25, lectures entitled “The New Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy” by Antonella Ruggiero Sansone, Director General of the AIBG, Spain, and “Back-and-Forth Food. Repercussion on the Cuisine of the Exchange of Products between Europe and America,” by Julio Valles, President of the Academy of Gastronomy of Castilla y León, Spain, are scheduled.

In addition to those and other lectures, there will be cooking shows, presentations and master classes.

One of the most anticipated moments of this seminar will take place on the day of the closing, on September 27, with the lecture entitled “500 Years of Gastronomic Culture in Ibero-America,” by Don Rafael Ansón, President of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy.

The ninth edition of the International Gastronomic Seminar Excelencias Gourmet will have a program of collateral activities, among which the exchanges in the headquarters of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and in the Faculty of Tourism of the University Havana, with the presence of several of the international speakers who will attend the event, is one of the highlights. There will also be a visit to the “El Laguito” Factory, where the famous Habanos from the world-class Cohiba brand are hand-rolled.

For three days, from 25 to 27 September 2019, the International Gastronomic Seminar Excelencias Gourmet will chip in its modest contribution in an effort to continue strengthening the development of gastronomy in Ibero-America, stressing on the traditions of both regional cuisine and Cuban food.
