ALBA-TCP Extraordinary Summit on Ebola Slated for October 20 in Havana

The battle against Ebola and the efforts that must be done to prevent the deadly diseases from spreading across Latin America and the Caribbean will be the main theme of the Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance of Peoples from the Americas and the Peoples Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP is the Spanish acronym) to be held in Havana on October 20.

According to an official press release issued by Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heads of States and Governments, as well as high-ranking representatives of the ALBA-TCP member countries and a number of international entities –rallied around the summoning bid made by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon- will discuss strategies in an effort to restrain and put up with the Ebola outbreak currently hitting West and Central Africa.

The Ebola death toll in West Africa amounted to over 4,000 victims last week. Moreover, the negative economic impact has been humongous following the cancellation of development projects and damage to local agriculture, construction, mining, trade, public transportation and tourism.
