American Safari Offers Two Photography Cruises in Mexico
American Safari Cruises’ 22-guest Safari Quest is hosting photography-themed cruises in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés departing Feb. 26 or March 19. The February date is targeted at families with children. The cruise will host a professional photographer for complimentary hands-on photo sessions and excursions. The photographer accompanies guests on excursions, answers questions, suggests new techniques and offers one-on-one assistance throughout the cruise.
Families with kids ages 12 and under are encouraged to sail on the Feb. 26 “Kids in Nature” cruise combining kid-friendly activities with photography tips. Optional excursions include kayaking, hiking, whale watching, swimming and snorkeling. An underwater camera and a hydrophone for listening to sea life are popular and educational pastimes.
On the Feb. 26 cruise, professional photographers Elizabeth and Olof Carmel will sail with their young daughter. The Carmels own a gallery in Truckee, Calif. On the March 19 cruise, professional travel photographers and writers Ellen and Hank Barone will sail.
The weeklong Sea of Cortés “Aquarium of the World” cruise sails roundtrip from La Paz, Mexico, and travels a route once explored by John Steinbeck and revered by Jacques Cousteau for its wildlife. Destinations include Isla Partida, Bahia Agua Verde, Isla Coyote and Los Islotes. A flexible schedule allows time for observing whales, dolphins, sea lions, blue-footed boobies, pelicans and other birds.
The Safari Quest cruises in the Sea of Cortés through April 2011. Fares from $4,995 per person include fine cuisine and beverages, premium liquors and activities. Kids 12 years of age and under sail at 25 percent off the published rate on designated kid cruises. The 36-guest Safari Explorer will host another “Kids in Nature” photography theme cruise on a weeklong Hawaiian Seascapes itinerary departing March 24.
