The Caribbean Tourist Excellences magazine, a publication aimed at fostering the advance of tourism in the Caribbean based on the region’s cultural values, has put out over a dozen million copies since its foundation a decade ago.

Several boldface names from Cuba’s arts and culture gathered Thursday in Santiago de Cuba to congratulate the publishing staff of this magazine, the only foreign publication devoted to the promotion of Caribbean travel destinations and their countless attractions.

During the tribute ceremony, celebrated Cuban writer Miguel Barnet called the magazine “an exquisite and magnificent publication, not only for its superb design and photography, but also for the quality of the materials it puts out, especially the feature reports.”

“We must thank the Excelencias Group for the promotion of each and every Caribbean nation’s cultural values. This is a serious piece of publishing work worth respecting,” Mr. Barnet said.

The outstanding Cuban author pointed out that any magazine that strongly believes in the traditions and cultural values of the peoples are meant to enjoy a long and fruitful life, let alone the admiration and respect of its readers.

The Caribbean Tourist Excellences magazine is published in four different languages and posts a web-based version that reaches out to an estimated 80 million readers worldwide.

The celebration for the publication’s tenth anniversary took place within the framework of the Caribbean Festival in Santiago de Cuba, an event that this time around is honoring the Dominican Republic as the guest country. As many as 400 artists –half of them from overseas- are attending the festival.
