Carnival Cruise Line announced a cruise ship shuffle on Tuesday that will result in the Carnival Breeze departing Miami earlier than previously announced.

The 3,690-passenger vessel will move to Galveston in May of 2016; earlier this year, Carnival said the ship would reposition in December of 2016.

Carnival Breeze will sail seven-day cruises year-round from Galveston, replacing Carnival Magic, which will move to Port Canaveral starting in April of 2016. That ship had also been scheduled to move to its new port in December.

Starting May 1, Carnival Splendor will switch from seven-day trips from Miami to take over the six- and eight-day Caribbean sailings that the Breeze had been sailing. The 3,002-passenger Splendor will sail that those alternating schedules until December of 2016, when the new Carnival Vista will replace it.

A spokesman said the Doral-based cruise line was changing the timing of the Galveston and Port Canaveral deployments in part to capitalize on the summer cruise season.

“We decided to move these scheduled moves up from late 2016 to spring 2016 in order to have them in place sooner and create more consumer excitement in these two important homeports,” spokesman Vance Gulliksen said in an email. “Plus, both ships offer outstanding family amenities and they will ready for our guests in the key summer family travel period.”
