Celebration Program to Mark Caribbean Tourist Excellences magazine's 100th Issue Announced

No matter how easy it might be said, reaching a pinnacle like the 100th issue of a specialized publication, based on constructive, objective and creative journalism, takes a lot of work. For the Excelencias Group, this premise has guided the company to the 100th issue of Excelencias Turisticas del Caribe y las Americas magazine, one of its flagship publications, followed by its spinoffs: Excelencias del Motor, with its 30th issue; Excelencias Gourmet getting to the 20th; and the youngest of all, Arte por Excelencias, that gets its 10th issue.

As explained during a press conference by Jose Carlos de Santiago, president of the business corporation, such a publication must be useful, clear and attractive to guide readers and encourage them to discover new destinations in each country.

He highlighted the importance of these communicative products in encouraging the travel industry in countries that represent the main destinations, as well as the development of specialized and creative messages, aimed at outbound markets, taking into account the characteristics of each and every one of them.

Mr. de Santiago stressed that he fell in love with Cuba the minute he landed on the island nation back in 1992. He pointed out that this country cast a spell on him with its natural beauty and the human quality of its people, and that’s the reason it remains one of most sought-after destinations among Spanish travelers.

To celebrate these special issues, the Excelencias Group has pieced together a vast assortment of activities stretching from July 18 thru 21 in the nation’s capital. To mark the release of issue No.20 of Excelencias Gourmet, the company has organized the International Gastronomic Seminar "Restaurants in Cuba and the Caribbean: Fusion and Pairing with Caribbean Flavor" to take place in Havana on July 19-21, at the Meliá Cohiba Hotel.

The event will be attended by food and drink suppliers and distributors; managers, chefs, barmen and maître of hotel and non-hotel restaurants; private restaurants staffs, as well as executives from tourism and services bodies and companies. The Seminar will feature the final stage of the Caribbean Flavor Contest open to all the restaurants of the Caribbean and Cuba having among their objectives to rescue traditional dishes of the region.

In addition, there’ll be contemporary art exhibits at the Origenes Gallery, showcasing pieces of artists who have been featured in the magazine, as well as the artworks of creators who have taken their talents and art closer to the company.

July 21 has been reserved for an exhibition of classic cars at the traditional Paseo del Prado Avenue. Owners of 1950s-vintage vehicles will friendly vie against one another in the Originality and Preservation categories.

To top it all off, a tribute gala to mark the magazine’s 100th issue will include a show entitled “Precious and Air” staged by Cuba’s National Ballet Company and the host orchestra of the Havana Grand Theater at the in-house Garcia Lorca Hall.

Boldface names and tourism ministers from the region, including high-ranking officials from Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico and Cuba, plus a number of presidents and chairmen of major regional travel and tourism organizations, have confirmed their attendance.

The Excelencias Group was created in 1997 and is a proud member of CTO (Caribbean Tourism Organization) and CHTA (Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association). Its representation offices are in Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Jamaica, Venezuela and Brazil.
