Coffee and Nature: The Two Powerhouses Promoted by Colombia at FITUR 2012

Colombia returned this year to FITUR with a view to impress the industry with the quality of its tourism opportunities, based on two main aspects: coffee culture and the country's natural wonders.
Colombia's stand, which was granted the Best Stand Award at FITUR over the last two editions, presented a new concept, "showcaseism," effectively turning the stand into an authentic showcase for the resources and products that Colombia offers.
Coffee, a traditional product in Colombia, whose expanses of coffee plantations make up one of the most famous landscapes in the world, namely the Coffee Triangle, which was declared part of our World Heritage by UNESCO in 2011. In order to promote this aspect of the country, a series of tasting sessions were organized, along presentations of the tourism opportunities that exist relating to the world of coffee, which were delivered by Juan Valdez, who attended FITUR for the first time.
On the other hand, Colombia promoted its natural delights. In this respect, the country features one of the highest levels of biodiversity on the planet. It is a place where visitors can enjoy endless activities, ranging from bird-watching and whale-watching to trekking in its natural parks.
In this sense and faithful to its commitment to the environment, Colombia once again promoted its green policy, inviting visitors at the fair to plant trees entirely free of charge for charity.
In addition, scuba-diving, eco-tourism, adventure tourism, sun-and-beach tourism, history and culture and congresses and conventions, among others, are all segments in which Colombia has a great deal to offer. In order to help promote these areas, the Colombia stand at the fair featured the presence of the Colombian footballer and Atlético de Madrid player, Radamel Falcao, who informed visitors of all the marvelous tourism opportunities that the country has to offer.
