Cuba Exhibits Tourist Attractions at Chinese Fair

Cuba showed its tourist attractions at the fair held in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou on Thursday, as part of a strategy to increase the number of Asian travelers to the Caribbean island.

The chief representative of the Cuban Ministry of Tourism in China, Elizabeth Vela Jaime, briefed travel agents, business executives, specialized press and tourist authorities about the development of Cuba's leisure sector.

In a phone conversation with Prensa Latina, the official said that her presentation included aspects of Cuba's tourist development, as part of the Authentic Cuba campaign, launched in July 2010 in China.

She recalled that one of the main indicators in Cuba's tourism is the number of foreign vacationers who visited the country in 2011, when over 2.70 million travelers were reported, accounting for a 7.3-percent increase compared to the previous year.

Vela's presentation opened Cuba's participation in the Chinese fair, which will close on Saturday and is also attended by representatives from European and North American countries.
