Cuba Gives Russian Tourism Top Priority, Commercial Director Says

Maria del Carmen Orellana, commercial director at the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, said Saturday that due to the large flow of Russian tourists to Cuba, this market is one of the most important for the island nation.

The number of Russian travelers who prefer the benefits of Cuba and the wide range of offers, such as world heritage cities and culture, as well as the traditional sun and beach destinations, has increased.

In an interview with Prensa Latina regarding her attendance at the Moscow International Travel and Tourism (MITT) Fair, Mrs. Orellana said the Cuban delegation traveled to Moscow in response to a request from Russian partners.

During the negotiation campaigns, we explained to the Russian group the achievements made regarding quality and presented the proposals of excursions, something travelers often ask and which allows us to diversify the Cuban product, she stressed.

An important issue of this visit to Russia has been the talks to maintain air operations and increase them. We expect that tour operators whose frequency hovers around ten days can reduce it to one week, she said.

This year, more than 80 countries with 190 stands attended the major tourist event in Russia and the fifth in hierarchy among world fairs, according to experts.
