Eighth National Publishers Congress 2013 Comes to a Close

AEEPP President Arsenio Escolar wrapped up the 2013 congress with words of praise for the success of the events and the quality of the debates. Mr. Escolar, together with Dr. Eugenio de Quesada (Nexo Group) summoned for next meeting, to be held at the Auditorio de la Real Casa de la Moneda in Madrid in the month of November.

Mr. Escolar also announced a bigger push for the Institutional Publicity Observatory, a topic addressed by Dr. Emilio Guichot, an expert on Management Law at the University of Seville.

Through three intense working sessions, the congress intended to shed light on a number of perspectives for all sectors dealing with publishers and editors.

In the case of innovation, some of the keynote lectures were delivered by Forbes publisher Andres Rodriguez, Senda Senior’s Matilde Pelegrí or Ignacio Escolar from Eldiario.es, all of them focusing on the fast-changing environment and the different proposals and suggestions to tackle that issue.

The different tools and solutions for many of the challenges and opportunities were presented by
OJD-PGD through Publishing Marketing and Hearing Control (José Antonio Pérez and David Pérez); “Mailing Solutions to the Publishing Sector’s Needs” by Yolanda Orcajada and the block offered by Google with a couple of papers on contents (Luis Collado) and the monetization of digital contents (Ignacio Monereo) that spurred up interesting and somewhat unexpected discussions.

As far as the digital realm was concerned, there was a massive turnout of delegates and papers, with highlights for “How to Make Social Media Profitable”, emceed by AEEPP Deputy President Carlos Ortiz and attended by Dr. Antonio de Cara, founder and webmaster of LosViajeros.com and Dr. José Manuel Dávila, general manager of Realiza.com.

The congress was the right framework for the introduction of Dr. Miguel Ormaetxea, chairman of Ecointeligencia Editorial from the AEEPP Digital Media Association, a project that intends to become a benchmark for digital media organization in Spain and reaches out to the outer world as well.

The role played by publishers was tackled by Dr. José Manuel Velasco, President of the Communication Director Association (DirCom) with a paper entitled “Either Influential or Entertaining”, and by Víctor Sánchez, Director General of Elocuent with “Coaching: The Publisher’s Personal Trademark”, two of the keynote speeches that grabbed rounds of applause for their originality, fresh outlook and criteria.

AEEPP has already embarked on the organization of the 2014 Annual Congress of Publishers to which the entire publication world has been summoned.
