FITUR 2012 to Feature Official Representation of Haiti, Murcia’s Lorca

The fair has provided free space at the exhibition to these two exhibitors so that now, more than ever, tourism can help to promote their recovery.

Being well aware of the important role that tourism can play in terms of boosting their economies and their recovery, the organizers of FITUR will promote the participation of Haiti and the town of Lorca (in Murcia) at the fair. In order to facilitate their attendance at this difficult time, FITUR has provided the space they will be occupying at the fair (18th to 22nd January) to their respective official representatives, in order to help promote these destinations.

The aim is to boost tourism development and aid the reconstruction efforts in Haiti, which suffered from a terrible earthquake in January 2010 and which will be attending the fair through the auspices of its Embassy in Madrid (Hall 4, Stand 4E12).

As far as Lorca is concerned, the town was also affected by a serious earthquake in May 2011. In this case, the destination will be represented by the Town Council (Hall 7, Stand 7C05)

This is not the first time that the fair organizers have made a gesture of this kind to countries or regions affected by natural disasters. In this respect, the fair provides free space at its 1999 edition to the countries affected by Hurricane Mitch, and at the 2004 edition it granted free space to the countries affected by the Tsunami in South-East Asia.
