Fitur Gay Wins the IGLTA Honor in the Networking Category

Fitur Gay (LGBT) has been awarded the “IGLTA Honor” 2016 in the Networking Category. The “IGLTA Honors” are the selective awards presented, in three types of categories, to persons and/or businesses that have stood out in the year leading up to the presentation for their work in the LGBT Tourism industry worldwide.
The award was announced today by the President of the IGLTA (The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association), John Tanzella, at the opening ceremony of Fitur Gay, staged as part of the 36th edition of FITUR, the International Tourism Fair organised by IFEMA, which is taking place between 20 and 24 January at Feria de Madrid. The award will be presented during the 33rd Annual Global Convention of the IGLTA, which is due to be held from 14 to 16 April 2016 in Cape Town (South Africa).
During the inauguration of Fitur Gay, John Tanzella explained that each year the governing board of the IGLTA presents the “IGLTA Honors” at its Annual Global Convention and pointed out that the recipients are persons or businesses selected for having made a positive difference in the LGBT tourism industry. “I am pleased to announce –he then added—that this year’s winner of the “IGLTA Honor” in the Networking category comes from right here, from Madrid”.
Tanzella highlighted the work of “our volunteer ambassador in Spain, David Martín, together with his associate Juan Pedro Tudela, who have very successfully created an LGBT area within this international trade show and which includes exhibitors, education and press”.
Through Fitur Gay (LGBT) “they have put this trade show on the world map of places where diversity and inclusion are honoured and respected values”. He then went on to thank Fitur Gay (LGBT) for “the five years it has been supporting global LGBT tourism and the IGLTA”.
FITUR is yet again providing a differentiated exhibition area for Fitur Gay (LGBT), which this year is holding its sixth staging. This space contains the specific tourism supply and demand of the GAY-LGBT segment, a sector that in Spain accounts for 6.1 billion in revenue and whose development and growth potential has run parallel to the staging of FITUR Gay (LGBT), which since its first edition has registered 300% growth among participating businesses. Furthermore, on this occasion a special spotlight has been placed on the lesbian segment.
Prominent among the winners at previous editions of the “IGLTA Honors” are some exceptional firms and institutions, such as Accor, GNetwork360, TAM Airlines, SAS, Abrat GLS, Olivia Cruises, The Curaçao Tourism Board or the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Colombia.
