Haiti is now hosting for the first time, from 19 to 22 May 2015 at the Hotel Karibe (Port-au-Prince), the 58th meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas.

The 58th meeting of the Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries of Haiti (MTIC), reflects the preparation of Haiti to build on the momentum of the growth of tourism in the region, while opening opportunities for sustainable development through tourism.

The Commission meeting was preceded by the International Seminar: Multi-destination Opportunities for Regional Integration held on May 19-20 and aimed at the tourism industry stakeholders in general.

On Tuesday 19, a panel at the program of the International Seminar entitled “Multi-destination Opportunities for Regional Integration” addressed the role of the industry operators and the hospitality industry in these times.

On Wednesday May 20, the seminar continued with panel discussions on the following topics: a strong regional integration system: Air and land connectivity & travel facilitation; financing tourism infrastructures: the role of the development banks and the regional organizations; multi-destination product development; the importance of tourism routes as part of regional cooperation agreements, before concluding this 2nd day with the signing of the commitment of the private sector with the GCET (Global Code of Ethics for Tourism).

Following the closing of the 58th UNWTO Commission for the Americas on Thursday, Friday will be devoted to technical visits in Cap Haitien and the Citadelle Laferrière.
