Iceland Wins MITT Wild Card
The MITT Wild Card Program aims to help new or emerging destinations discover more about the Russian tourism industry, by taking a free stand at MITT – Moscow’s International Travel and Tourism Exhibition.
Destinations that had never exhibited at the event before were invited to apply. The winner, Iceland, was chosen by organizer ITE Group plc, with consideration for recent industry developments.
Earlier in the year, Icelandair started flights from St Petersburg as a new way to serve the growing Russian market both to Iceland and across the Atlantic to North America. Iceland is renowned for its pristine nature, breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. Furthermore, the country is commonly quoted as a top destination to visit.
Thorleifur Thor Jonsson, Trade Delegations Manager, Promote Iceland, comments, “The Russian market is important for Iceland because we are catering for people that are traveling out of the main season and there the adventurous Russian travellers are a strong market.”
By participating in MITT 2014 we are hoping to get the image of Iceland as an exciting adventure destination, but still with highest service level both regarding tourism and general life standard, into the minds of the Russian travellers.”
Iceland will showcase their national offerings in pavilion 2.2. More than 3,000 companies took part last year at MITT, representing 198 tourist destinations. For more information, visit: www.mitt.ru or email: tm@ite-exhibitions.com
MITT is the part of an industrial portfolio of travel and tourism exhibitions held in 6 countries: Russia (Moscow, Novosibirsk), Ukraine (Kiev), Kazakhstan (Almaty), Azerbaijan (Baku), Turkey (Istanbul) and India (Mumbai).
