Interest in Nicaragua Accrues among Cruise Line Companies

A cruise liner with 2,100 tourists on board arrived in the port of Corinto, in Chinandega today. This confirms tourist interest in Nicaragua, which is focusing on attracting 1.5 million visitors this year.

According to the Plan of Good Governance 2016, the authorities expect the tourist industry to generate about US$500 million in 2016.

In order to attract attention and diversify the options, the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute will encourage the implementation of more than 550 events to promote, highlight and preserve the culture, history, customs, natural heritage, gastronomy, beliefs, idiosyncrasies and art of this Central American nation.

It also plans to open 11 infrastructure programs in provinces like Madriz, Matagalpa, Jinotega, Estelí and Nueva Segovia in the north, and Granada, in the West.

It will also provide support to small tourist businesses in Nueva Segovia, Madriz, Jinotega, Estelí and Matagalpa, in order to increase the quality of their services.

The ship Nieuw Amsterdam docked yesterday in the port terminal and around 1,450 foreigners on board made a tour of the main tourist sites of Chinandega and the department of León.

The next destination of the cruise will be Canada, the website El 19 pointed out.
