International African-Caribbean Festival to be held in Mexico’s Veracruz

An international African-Caribbean festival will unravel from July 17 to 27 in the Mexican state of Veracruz where Puerto Rican singer Willie Colon will perform the opener-upper act.

Apart from Veracruz, the event will take place in the cities of Xalapa, Coatzacoalcos, Minatitlan, Poza Rica, Xalapa and Orizaba, with a projected turnout of thousands of tourists interested in taking a firsthand look at the Caribbean peoples’ traditions and culture.

The festival agenda includes an scholastic forum to be attended by some fifty experts from 14 countries who will touch on the importance of spreading and preserving the region’s tangible and intangible heritage.

The event will also have shows and workshops on music, dancing, performing arts and fine arts, as well as lectures and book presentations.

During the ten-day gathering, there’ll be a meeting of Caribbean Culture Ministers and representatives from the states abutting the Caribbean Basin with a view to broach such topics as the ties between heritage and tourism, a sector most regional countries heavily depend on.

Organizers have also planned a scientific colloquium on the Caribbean Organization for Monuments and Sites, an agency attached to UNESCO.
