Madrid Attends Moscow’s Top Travel, Tourism Fair

Madrid is putting a new spin on the promotion of its travel industry in Russia. The Spanish capital is attending the 22nd edition of the Moscow International Travel & Tourism (MITT 2015), slated from March 18-21.
The most important tourism fair in Russia and one of the five major travel events in the world, held in Moscow, boasts 57,737 square meters of exhibition space for over 2,000 exhibitors, 198 destinations and more than 37,400 visitors, three quarters of them industry professionals.
In line with the 2015-2019 Strategic Tourism Plan, which homes its promotional efforts in on 30 foreign cities, destination Madrid, through its municipal company, will provide information on its major travel tourist attractions to buyers, guests and attendees.
Madrid has its own booth inside the Turespaña stand, which provides useful information on its standing offer and its latest developments, plus promotional brochures in Russian language covering all sightseeing spots of the Spanish capital, ranging from shopping, cuisine, culture and leisure.
The Madrid delegation has been holding meetings with some of the leading Russian tour operators, such as Natalie Tours, Pegas Touristik, Vremya Tour or Capital Tour, among others, in a bid to know in depth about the needs of its customers and to set up contacts for future professional collaborations.
With its participation in MITT 2015, Madrid aims at expanding and strengthening the image of destination Madrid in Russia, thus encouraging the flow of Russian visitors and travelers from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, Tajikistan and Moldova, as well as out of Eastern Europe.
Russia is the tenth-largest outbound market for the city of Madrid, with a market share of 2.7 percent of total incoming tourism. In 2014, the city welcomed 112,130 visitors from Russia, which generated 263,560 overnight stays. The Russian market also was fifth in average daily spending in the Community of Madrid in 2013.
By attending this major Russian fair, the Department of Tourism for Destination Madrid’s municipal company continues the actions taken since 2009 in this market. In addition, the fair is supporting the holding in Madrid of the 16th Congress of Russian tour operator Natalie Tours, coupled with other developments and collaborations in press trips and familiarization trips for Russian travel agencies, presentations of the destination, and the development of a far-reaching advertising campaign.
