Meliá Hotels International will be managing in 2014 the emblematic Meliá Paulista in Sao Paulo, thus totaling 14 hotels in Brazil, where the company has planned to have over 20 hotels before the 2016 Olympic Games.

The hotel chain is increasing its presence in Brazil, one of the most important emerging markets for its internationalization strategy, a country where it was recognized by ‘Carta Capital’ magazine as the fourth most-admired hotel company in 2013, on its ‘Most Admired Companies of Brazil’ special issue.

Meliá Paulista is the fifth hotel the company has inked in that country to date, a flagship facility nestled in Sao Paulo’s Avenida Paulista, one of the main business arteries in Latin America.

The hotel, which is outlined to feature 400 apartments and suites, is scheduled to be re-opened in March 2014 as ‘Meliá Paulista Business & Convention’. It offer will be complemented with a contemporary cuisine restaurant, bar and gym. The hotel will also include nine halls for meetings, events and conventions.

Besides Sao Paulo, where it has a strong presence with ten hotels under TRYP by Wyndham and Meliá Hotels & Resorts brands, the company is set to reach Brasilia and Angra dos Reis, and for 2016 —the year of the Olympic Games in Brazil– it looks forward to having opened several projects in such destinations as Río de Janeiro, Recife, Belo Horizonte or Pernambuco.

Meliá carried out an intense expansion process throughout Latin America in 2013, specifically in the urban segment, in countries like Chile, Peru, Venezuela and Brazil.
