Focus on Travel News visited the Otdykh/Leisure-2011 and had chance to talk with important industry players of the Russian market.

Turkey attended the 17th International Trade Fair for Tourism; Otdykh/Leisure-2011 which took place 21-24 September at Moscow's Crocus Expo.

Beside Turkey, Russia’s other important tourism destinations such as Egypt, UAE, Thailand, Malaysia were among the destinations that took part at the exhibition.

Tourism is one of the most prospective industries in Russia, which is one of top ten countries in the field of potential for tourism. The country is capable of providing travel services to more than 70 million Russian people and foreigners.

The Russian Minister for Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation v. L. Mutko said at the opening “It is important to note that in most Russian regions local programs of tourism development have been designed, and new projects are now being prepared. I would like to mention that recently the Federal target program “The development of inbound and outbound tourism in Russia (2011–2018)” has been approved and it implies allocating unique state and private investments into the Russian travel industry.”

Under this program, the most prospective types of tourism will be developed: sightseeing and educational tourism, recreational tourism, mountain skiing, yachting and car travelling.”

Specialized exhibitions contribute greatly into the development of the industry and into promoting Russian travel products on both internal and international markets. This goes for MATIW — Moscow Autumn Travel Industry Week, that brings together professionals in all types of travel industry and is the main ground for communication and demonstration.”
