Peru to Host Second UNWTO World Forum on Food Tourism

Thanks to the agreement signed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Spain's Basque Culinary Center (BCC) and the Republic of Peru, the South American country will become the host of the 2nd World Forum on Food Tourism, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) informed on Wednesday.
The said signing ceremony was held within the framework of the 2016 International Tourism Trade Fair (Fitur) running in Madrid from January 20th to 24th.
During Fitur activities, "Peru will assume the Presidency of the UNWTO Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness (CTC). This sets a historic milestone, since the country leads such board for the first time," Silva noted.
"[...] we are very proud to organize the world gastronomy annual meeting, which for the first time leaves Spain to be held in Peru, a gastronomic destination gaining increasing recognition world-wide," she expressed.
The official went on to add this achievement proves efforts undertaken to promote Peru's cuisine have led to notable results. Such progress helped to position Peruvian gastronomy worldwide.
"Promoting our gastronomy and, at the same time, our top export products, such as quinoa, berries, asparagus or maca, opens the doors of global receptive tourism to us, always taking into account respect for tradition, sustainability and experiences," she stated.
The 2nd UNWTO World Forum on Food Tourism will take place in Lima city on April 27th-29th, 2016.
