Now in its sixth year, Philadelphia’s Global Fusion Festival was born out of the need for an annual event to attract multicultural tourists to the city, while showcasing Philadelphia’s diversity. Taking place on July 21, more than 30,000 people are expected to pack the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing for what has become Philadelphia’s largest one-day festival.

Included among those numbers this year are several family reunions with hundreds of members who have added the festival to their groups’ itineraries as a free entertainment option. For Philadelphia, these family reunions fill an important need period for hotels that otherwise lose business during this season.

The Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB), works to book and assist reunions by providing activities to attract groups like this in hopes of increasing tourism interest. This year’s festival themed “Rhapsody” features multi-platinum R&B singer and actress Brandy, Grammy-nominated singer Kenny Lattimore, vocalist and songwriter Elle Varner, R&B crooner Luke James and Reggaeton duo R.K.M & Ken-y, in addition to cultural performers, multicultural vendors and a children’s pavilion.
