Pullmantur’s Atlantic Star Sold to Undisclosed Buyer

Atlantic Star Cruise Industry News has learned Pullmantur’s Atlantic Star has been sold to an undisclosed buyer and will be renamed the Mona Lisa II. The French-built Atlantic Star was launched in 1984. The 46,000-ton vessel is one of the last steam ships remaining, with a passenger capacity of 1,550.

The ship was originally built for Sitmar Cruises as the Fairsky. When Sitmar was purchased by P&O Cruises, she was renamed the Sky Princess. In 2000, she was sent to P&O Australia and renamed the Pacific Sky and sailed there until 2006, when she joined the Pullmantur fleet.

The ex-Sitmar ship has been primarily laid up since 2009, although she did emerge in September of 2010 to fill in for the Pacific Dream when that vessel suffered a mechanical failure.
