Riu Palace Punta Cana Reopens
The Riu Palace Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic reopened July 14 following a three-month renovation project that boosted guestroom count from 621 to 676 and introduced a new restaurant, several pools and new interior design.
The project preserved the palace-like elements of the building, originally constructed in 2006, including its towers and domes.
The main building now houses a cafe and pastry shop called Capuchino as well as a new spa and gym. The renovated lobby has more natural light and a new decor with a predominance of white and gold hues.
Guest rooms are a mix of contemporary style and classic wood colonial furniture. All bathtubs were replaced with large walk-in showers. Garden areas now include four rectangular pools, one of which, next to the new RiuLand kids' club, has slides.
A Spanish restaurant, La Bodega, is the newest addition to the culinary offerings, joining the main buffet and Italian, Japanese, fusion and steakhouse restaurants.
The Riu Palace Punta Cana is part of Riu's Punta Cana complex, which includes the Riu Palace Bavaro, Riu Naiboa, Riu Bambu and Riu Palace Macao. All guests at the complex have access to Riu's Splash Water World water park.
