State Agency to Study Bringing a Port for Cruise Ships to Atlantic City

The New Jersey state agency that oversees Atlantic City's tourism district says it is hiring a consultant to investigate whether it's worth adding a port for cruise ships to stop there. The idea has been floated by Mayor Don Guardian.

The new study Authority is preliminary, says John Palmieri, the executive director of the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development, which is funding it.

Some in the cruise industry tell The Press of Atlantic City that Atlantic City is too close to other departure ports including New York City and that cruisers would rather make stops in the Caribbean islands than New Jersey.
