The Sugar Bay Resort and Spa will join the AMResorts portfolio on July 1, marking the company’s debut on the island of St. Thomas.

The 294-room resort, to be renamed Dreams Sugar Bay St. Thomas Resort & Spa, will undergo renovations, including an upgrade of 100 rooms to Preferred Club level.

The resort will remain open during renovations. The official rebranding as the all-inclusive Dreams Sugar Bay will take place in November. The property will be the 12th Dreams resort.

Wyndham operated the property from 1994 until 2011, when it became an independent resort under the management of Aimbridge Hospitality.

The Sugar Bay Resort is the second-largest hotel on St. Thomas. Marriott's Frenchman's Reef has 302 rooms, and the adjacent Morning Star Beach Resort (part of the same Marriott resort) has 96 rooms.

Sugar Bay became an all-inclusive resort in July 2010. The only other property on St. Thomas offering an all-inclusive option is Bolongo Bay Beach Resort.
