Turks and Caicos to Host 2015 World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards ceremony for North America and the Caribbean region will take place this year in Turks and Caicos Islands, one of 14 Caribbean territories competing as “Leading Destination” in the 22nd edition.

One of the main nominees is the Bahamas, the Bahamian Tourism Ministry said Tuesday in a statement, noting that the archipelago is competing in the categories of Leading Beach Destination, Leading Cruise Destination, Leading Cruise Port, Leading Destination, and Leading Dive Destination.

The Bahamas is also in the running in the categories of Leading Honeymoon Destination, Leading Tourist Board, Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction and Most Romantic Destination.

“Being nominated in nine separate categories is an incredible honor and recognition for The Islands of the Bahamas, and everything they have to offer visitors and hard work they have done to welcome and attract new visitors,” the Ministry said.

For the award of Leading Destination, Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos are vying with Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Barths, St. Martin and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The winners of the next regional edition will be announced on Oct. 17 in Turks and Caicos.

The awards were launched in 1993 to recognize, celebrate and reward excellence in the travel industry, tourism and hospitality and are based on voting by industry members and the general public.
