Cuban Varadero beach and the Portuguese capital will be joined weekly since August 6 through charter flights to be conducted during summertime, according to an accord signed today.

In the presence of Cuban ambassador Johana Tablada, the document was signed by Zoom Travel general director Paulo Oliveira, Luis Ovidio, president of the Directive Board of White Airways, and Empty Leg commercial director Licelia Ferreira.

After the signing, Olivera said the flights respond to the fact that Cuba is a necessity of the Portuguese market, and thanked support by Portuguese authorities, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Cuban embassy.

On the other hand, the Cuban ambassador mentioned some aspects that favor this decision after recalling that about 1,940 Portuguese vacationers visited the Caribbean nation last year, marking an increase compared to 2012.

The agreed operations include 15 departures during summertime, with possibilities to be extended until January 2015.

They will be weekly flights with total transportation in summertime of 3,555 passengers involving more than 250 hotels of the main Cuban tourist zones.

The second Lisbon-Cayo Coco charter flight, where Pestana group signed a contract with Gaviota Group for the administration of the five-star Pestana Cayo Coco Hotel, should also begin in 2014.
