IATA announced global passenger traffic results for May showing demand growth of 6.2 percent compared to May 2013. While this represented a deceleration compared to April year-over-year traffic growth of 7.6 percent, the performance is indicative of improving demand drivers.

The government of Spain announced that it will freeze airport tariffs until 2025 to enhance air traffic in the country. The airline industry in Spain was deteriorating due to low air traffic which is hit by years of high charges and a prolonged economic strife.

Minister of tourism and entertainment, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, on Tuesday led a team of tourism officials and several representatives from the Montego Bay business community in welcoming the inaugural nonstop international flight from Southwest Airlines.

Caribbean Airlines confirms that all its international and domestic flights scheduled for Tuesday were affected as a result of many of its pilots who were rostered to operate flights calling in sick. Caribbean Airlines apologizes to its loyal passengers for all inconvenience caused by these delays.

Delta Air Lines is launching nonstop flights to Barbados beginning on December 4, 2014, twice weekly between Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown and both New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Southwest Airlines spread its wings to the islands on July 1 with the launch of service to Aruba; Nassau, Bahamas; and Montego Bay, Jamaica, from Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando. It is Southwest’s first international service.
