International tourist arrivals to the Caribbean region are projected to reach 30 million by the year 2030, according to the Tourism Towards 2030 forecast from the UN World Tourism Organization.
The Caribbean received a total of 21 million tourist arrivals in 2012. That was announced this week at the 55th Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for the Americas, which is being held in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The Dominican Republic has big ambitions for its tourism sector, hoping to attract 10 million annual visitors by 2023. That would represent a drastic jump from its current totals of almost 4.6 million, a number which already leads the Caribbean region.
