Central America Wraps Up a Year of Tourism Achievements, Looks Ahead to 2025
The Central America Tourism Agency (CATA) has closed 2024 on a high note, marking significant achievements that have strengthened the region’s position as a top multi-destination choice. Through comprehensive strategies and strategic partnerships, the groundwork has been laid for a promising 2025.
A Year of Global Presence
In 2024, CATA represented Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic at prestigious global events such as FITUR, ITB Berlin, GTT Rimini, WTM London, and WTE Miami. These platforms showcased the region’s archaeological, cultural, natural, adventure, and culinary richness to a global audience.
The Central America Travel Market, held in El Salvador, was another major milestone. It attracted tour operators and media from Europe, North America, and South America, facilitating over 1,620 business meetings. The event highlighted Central America’s diversity and emerging segments like surf tourism, birdwatching, and gastronomy.
Awards and Alliances
CATA’s efforts were recognized with the 2024 Travellers Awards and the Tourism Excellence Award at FITUR, underscoring its leadership in innovation and digitalization. Strengthening partnerships with organizations like the IILA (Italian-Latin American Institute), CEAV (Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies), and ARGE Lateinamerika (Latin America Working Group) opened doors in key markets such as Italy, Spain, and Germany.
Sustainability and Cultural Preservation
Sustainability and cultural preservation remained central to CATA’s strategy, taking the spotlight at events like the Adventure Travel World Summit and Cultourfair 2024, which focused on adventure and cultural tourism. These initiatives reinforced the region’s commitment to responsible tourism practices that honor its heritage and natural assets.
Looking Ahead
With 25 million visitors recorded in 2023 and growing air connectivity, Central America is poised for continued growth. Upcoming efforts include promoting the region at CATM 2025 and expanding strategic alliances to enhance its global appeal.
CATA remains committed to presenting a unified vision that highlights the cultural and natural wealth of Central America, solidifying its reputation as a unique destination on the global tourism map.
