CTO Wraps Up 2024 with a Celebration of Caribbean Partnerships
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) concluded 2024 on a celebratory note with the “CTO Cocktails & Caribbean Vibes: Celebrating Caribbean Partnerships” event. Hosted at the Hilton Barbados, this gathering honored the collaborative spirit that fuels growth and innovation in the region's tourism industry.
Bringing together tourism leaders, government officials, NGOs, multilateral organizations, private sector representatives, media, and diplomats, the event served as a moment to reflect on the year's achievements and reinforce the value of partnerships.
Celebrating Unity and Leadership
Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary General and CEO of the CTO, delivered a heartfelt address celebrating the organization's successes and its reliance on teamwork. “Leadership is never a solo act,” she said. “The incredible team at the CTO works tirelessly to turn our shared vision into reality. Together, we’re not just dreaming of a brighter future for the Caribbean—we’re creating it.”
She extended special recognition to key figures, including Barbados’ Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill, Chairman of the CTO Ministerial Council; Andrea Franklin, Chair of the CTO Board of Directors; Neil Walters, Director of Finance and Resource Management for the CTO; and Sharon Banfield-Bovell, CTO Director of Resource Mobilization and Development.

Andrea Franklin, speaking on behalf of Minister Gooding-Edghill, reflected on 2024’s milestones, such as the successful CTO Sustainable Tourism Conference in Grenada. She emphasized how partnerships across public and private sectors, as well as regional and international organizations, have been pivotal in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and elevating the Caribbean's profile globally.
Looking forward, Franklin outlined initiatives aimed at solidifying the Caribbean’s position as a premier destination. These include:
- Developing a Caribbean Tourism Reimagining Plan
- Expanding the Regional Events Calendar
- Enhancing Market Intelligence and Capacity Building
- Deepening Engagement with Allied Members
She acknowledged ongoing challenges, such as shifting traveler expectations and economic uncertainties, but expressed confidence in the region’s ability to lead in sustainable tourism, digital innovation, and skills development.
Franklin also lauded Secretary General Dona Regis-Prosper for revitalizing the CTO over the past 15 months, crediting her vision and leadership for positioning the organization for future success.
Gratitude for Partnerships
Neil Walters, CTO’s Director of Finance, echoed the sentiments of appreciation for partnerships: “None of this would be possible without the collaboration and support of everyone here. Your contributions have been instrumental in helping the CTO fulfill its mission.”
Looking Ahead to 2025
The event underscored the transformative power of collaboration in advancing Caribbean tourism. As the CTO enters 2025, it remains committed to fostering strong alliances, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring continued growth and prosperity for the region.
This celebration of partnerships not only reflected on the year’s accomplishments but also set the stage for an even brighter future in Caribbean tourism.
