UN Tourism Focuses on Education, Investment at Bled Strategic Forum

UN Tourism showcased the transformative power of education and innovation at the Bled Strategic Forum, Central and South-Eastern Europe’s leading international conference. Executive Director Natalia Bayona emphasized the role of smart investments and digital skills training in fostering inclusive and sustainable tourism development globally.
During a panel on tourism's data-driven transformation, Ms. Bayona highlighted the need for rethinking education to address challenges like seasonality and overcrowding. She stressed the importance of investing in digital skills to create smart, sustainable destinations. She also pointed out that $48 billion in venture capital has been invested in tourism technology over the past five years, reinforcing the role of innovation in driving change.
UN Tourism also praised Slovenia for its commitment to sustainable tourism and discussed further collaboration opportunities with Matjaž Han, the country’s Minister of Economy, Tourism, and Sport. These discussions focused on boosting private investments in sustainable tourism initiatives.
Additionally, the UN Tourism delegation met with the School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana to explore partnerships in tourism education. Potential collaborations include initiatives through the UN Tourism Online Academy and opportunities for Slovenian students to gain international experience through research placements, internships, and online courses.
By leveraging education, innovation, and targeted investments, UN Tourism aims to create a more resilient and sustainable tourism sector, both regionally and globally.
