Avelo Airlines has officially launched nonstop service between Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Southern Connecticut. The new route is the first of three destinations Avelo will serve from Detroit, with flights to Wilmington and Charlotte, North Carolina starting in June.

The airline celebrated its inaugural flight with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at DTW’s Gate D5A. The new Monday and Friday service will operate aboard Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft. Fares start at $39 one way, available at aveloair.com.

“This route offers an affordable, convenient, and reliable option for travelers between Detroit and Southern Connecticut,” said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy, noting that it also enhances access to New York and New England via HVN.

As part of its expansion in Michigan, Avelo also announced a partnership with Michigan Flyer, offering complimentary deluxe motorcoach service between East Lansing, Brighton, Ann Arbor, and DTW for bookings made with the promo code FLYAVELO through June 12, 2025.

Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) provides easy access to Greater New Haven’s 15 towns and is situated near major highways and commuter rail lines. The coastal city of New Haven, home to Yale University, boasts a vibrant cultural scene and was named one of the New York Times' “52 Places to Go” in 2023.
