Azamara Cruises is elevating its signature Destination Immersion® concept with the launch of a new program, Discover What the Locals Know, designed to give travelers authentic cultural experiences during the Winter 2026-2027 season.

The initiative builds on Azamara’s reputation for offering more late nights and overnights in port than any other cruise line, allowing guests to move beyond traditional sightseeing and experience destinations through the lens of local traditions, cuisine, and community life.

“Travel expectations are evolving, with a growing desire for genuine, immersive experiences that go beyond the typical tourist view,” said Dondra Ritzenthaler, CEO of Azamara Cruises. “Guests want to connect more deeply — sharing meals where locals gather, celebrating traditions, and exploring everyday life. That’s exactly what this program delivers.”

Azamara’s 2026-2027 Mediterranean itineraries, running from fall through spring, will include exclusive small-group excursions led by locals, behind-the-scenes access to European film festivals, artisan workshops, and culinary experiences highlighting regional flavors. Seasonal activities — from wandering through Florence’s Piazza del Duomo Christmas Market to olive harvesting in Santa Margherita — will showcase authentic moments at their most vibrant.

Program highlights include attending the Festival dei Popoli in Florence, joining Catania’s citywide Maratona Belliniana tribute to composer Vincenzo Bellini, celebrating creativity at Seville’s European Film Festival, and experiencing Italy’s holiday traditions in historic city centers.

By focusing on off-peak travel months, Azamara also ensures guests can enjoy crowd-free exploration and deeper engagement with local cultures. The enhanced offering underscores Azamara’s positioning as a top choice for culturally curious travelers seeking meaningful connections with destinations around the world.
