Diana Ross Named Godmother of Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International has announced that music legend Diana Ross will serve as godmother to its newest Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, debuting in August 2025. The cruise line revealed the appointment ahead of the ship’s inaugural season of 7-night Caribbean voyages departing from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, and featuring stops at destinations including the fan-favorite Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
Continuing the long-standing maritime tradition of ship godmothers bestowing blessings of safekeeping and good fortune, Ms. Ross will participate in an official naming ceremony in the ship’s AquaTheater, located in the stunning, ocean-view AquaDome neighborhood. “I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” said Ross. “This feels like a perfect continuation of my journey.”
As Royal Caribbean’s second Icon Class vessel, Star of the Seas builds on the success of its sister ship to deliver what the brand touts as the “world’s best family vacation.” Designed for guests of all ages, the ship offers eight neighborhoods, the thrilling Category 6 waterpark, seven pools, over 40 dining and beverage venues, and high-caliber entertainment including “Back to the Future: The Musical.”
Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, praised the appointment: “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother than Diana Ross, a true icon who brings people together across generations. Her music and legacy reflect the spirit of joy and unity we aim to deliver aboard Star of the Seas.”
In addition to its Caribbean sailings, Royal Caribbean teased further expansion of its private destination portfolio, including the upcoming Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (December 2025), Royal Beach Club Cozumel (2026), and Perfect Day Mexico (2027). These developments promise even more unforgettable vacation experiences in the years ahead.
