New Era of Elegance: Oceania Cruises Begins Construction on Oceania Sonata

Oceania Cruises has officially commenced construction on its next-generation luxury vessel, Oceania Sonata™, with a ceremonial steel cutting held at the Fincantieri-Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy. This marks the beginning of the line’s revolutionary Sonata Class, ushering in a new chapter for the brand renowned for its culinary excellence and destination-focused voyages.
Set to debut in 2027, Oceania Sonata will be the ninth ship in the Oceania Cruises fleet and the first of two vessels in the Sonata Class. She will be joined by her sister ship, Oceania Arietta™, designed to be the most spacious and amenity-rich ships the brand has ever launched. This new class builds on Oceania’s long-standing reputation for refined luxury at sea.
Speaking at the event, Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, emphasized the significance of this milestone. “Oceania Sonata heralds the dawn of a new era in luxury cruising,” he said. “We’re thrilled to continue our tradition of excellence in collaboration with Fincantieri, our trusted shipbuilding partner for nearly 20 years.”
The design of Oceania Sonata reflects a commitment to delivering a symphony of unforgettable experiences—a concept that aligns with the ship’s musical name. Every detail is crafted to elevate the guest journey, from elevated dining venues to immersive, destination-led itineraries and personalized onboard service.
The ship follows in the footsteps of other acclaimed Oceania vessels built by Fincantieri, including the Marina™, Riviera™, Vista®, and the upcoming Allura™, which is scheduled to set sail in July 2025. Each ship underscores the synergy between Italian craftsmanship and the cruise line’s dedication to innovation and comfort.
With this steel-cutting milestone, Oceania Cruises sets its sights firmly on the future. Oceania Sonata promises to deliver the brand’s signature blend of elegance, comfort, and culinary artistry, reaffirming its leadership in the world of small-ship luxury cruising.
